SHE Sewing training
2013 “became the year of the bag”
We were approached by an organisation and asked if we could manufacture various types of hand bags and purses for sell to existing customers.
These simple words can get confusing but for now we will adopt the
UK wording as follows:-
UK- Handbag = US- Purse, UK- Purse = US Wallet, male or female
UK- Wallet, used by men, UK- Purse, used by women.
Through our sewing project we were able to train over 25 Thai Ladies on our “ern as you learn” vocational training programme.
The ladies all came from “at risk” groups not only from the bars of Patong, and all had families to support so to just offer free training was not an option, so we took each one on as an employee with the goal of selling the products the group produced to meet the various costs involved.
The training programme was a great success, all gained valuable skills plus we had the opportunity to help with various needs within group. We shared our faith and saw some breakthroughs, prayers were answered and we had the privilege of walking alongside these women for a season.
We would have loved to make it an ongoing micro enterprise programme but at our level we did not have the cash flow or other resources to make the programme fully sustainable.
